Community Garden

In 2023, Kingsgate gained a community garden. The garden was built by residents and volunteers. Here are some early photos.

Although it is still young, the garden is already very well established and is becoming a popular spot with residents. We have grown some beautiful plants and flowers, as well as herbs, fruit and veg.

We are prize winners! At the 2024 De Beauvoir Gardeners Autumn Show, our garden was joint winner of the Community Garden Prize, and was also presented with the silver cup for Best Exhibit in Show.

The garden is a haven for wildlife large and small.

Children can search for the fairy doorways, including important addresses.

All residents are welcome to enjoy the garden.

We Need You!

The garden is maintained by volunteers from the estate.

What Can I Do?

Weeding is needed throughout the year. If you aren’t sure what is a weed and what is a plant please ask before you start.

In the summer the garden needs regular watering. The whole garden takes about an hour to water but even fifteen minutes can make a big difference.

Some plants need dead heading. This is when you remove the dead flower heads from plants so that they keep producing new flowers.

Other Tasks Include:

  • Pruning
  • Planting
  • Building and maintaining garden furniture and beds

How do I Get Involved?

Speak to one of the gardeners, or contact the TRA on kingsgatetra@gmail.com.

We are planning to organise garden days.
